As with the Wake Robbin, the picture of this Sweet Wakerobin (Trillium
vaseyi) was also taken near Max Patch in Western North Carolina. At the time when
they were both photographed, I had only a rudimentary knowledge of Trilliums. All I knew when I took the picture was that it was plenty larger and
looked different than the Wake Robin I had just photographed previously. Upon later
inspection of the photo, I determined that it was probably a Sweet Wakerobin due to
several features:
- Significantly larger petals
- Significant petal overlap at the bases
- Much greater ratio between the length of the petals and
sepals
- At least one of the petals curves backward a little bit
However, I'm still not 100% certain that this is a Sweet
Wakerobin, as opposed to a regular Wake Robin. Feedback would be much welcomed. |
